Incumbent Scott Gillingham Re-elected as Winnipeg Mayor, New Councillors Elected
Incumbent mayor Scott Gillingham secured a second term in Winnipeg on 22 October, and seven new councillors were elected to the city council. The election, held on 22 October, also saw residents vote for councillors and school trustees, Global News reported. On the eve of the vote, Gillingham and challenger Kevin Klein toured the city outlining tax, recreation and infrastructure plans, the Winnipeg Free Press said.
An Abacus Data poll released by the Winnipeg Free Press earlier in October showed Gillingham leading with 36 % support and newcomer Noah Redden tied for third with 14 %, and former mayor Glen Murray endorsed Redden. CBC noted a high turnout, with more than 38,000 votes recorded by noon and a record number of advance voters.
