Toronto council's opposition questioned after Bradford's defeat
CBC reported that, following Brad Bradford’s loss in the October 24 mayoral election, right-leaning Toronto councillors warned the city would have a weak opposition to Mayor Olivia Chow, while analysts said the new council would still engage in debate on major issues. Olivia Chow was re-elected on October 24, defeating Bradford by more than 127,000 votes, a result confirmed by multiple outlets. The election saw a record municipal turnout of about one million voters, roughly 46 % of the electorate.
Across the Greater Toronto Area, incumbents were unseated in several cities and women’s representation rose. In neighboring municipalities, Mark Sutcliffe retained the Ottawa mayoralty, while newcomers such as Alvin Tedjo won in Mississauga and Keanin Loomis defeated Andrea Horwath in Hamilton.
