Schools Expected to Remain Open on Oct. 26 Amid Cyclone Threat to Andhra Pradesh and Odisha
No nationwide holiday is planned for Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, though Odisha has announced closures on Oct. 28-29 and a cyclone may affect Andhra Pradesh later in the week.
Schools across India are slated to operate on Monday, Oct. 26, unless state or district authorities issue specific closure orders. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast indicating no weather warnings for Delhi, Chandigarh and Haryana on that day, and the region is expected to stay dry.
In the Bay of Bengal, a cyclonic system is projected to intensify and move toward the Andhra Pradesh coast around Oct. 28. The IMD warned that the storm could become a very severe cyclonic storm, bringing heavy rain, strong winds and possible flooding to coastal districts such as Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Konaseema, West Godavari, Krishna, Bapatla and Prakasam. Authorities in those districts have been urged to monitor official bulletins, but no school closure has been announced for Oct. 26.
The Odisha government has ordered the closure of schools, colleges and Anganwadi centres in five districts—Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri—on Oct. 28 and 29 as a precaution against the approaching cyclone. The order does not affect Oct. 26.
Parents in Delhi-NCR and other regions are advised to check messages from schools and local administrations for any last-minute updates before making travel plans.
