Texas and Utah surge in AP Top 25 after weekend victories

Résumé

Texas jumped to No. 11 and Utah rose to No. 6 in the latest AP college football poll following wins over Ole Miss and Houston, while BYU fell to No. 8 after a loss to Central Florida.

Texas and Utah made significant gains in the most recent Associated Press Top 25 poll after defeating ranked opponents over the weekend. Utah, the only unbeaten team in the Big 12, advanced to No. 6 after a 21-13 victory over Houston, moving up from No. 10 the previous week. Texas rose from No. 19 to No. 11 following a 34-27 win against Ole Miss, which dropped to No. 12 after the loss.

BYU’s brief stint at No. 2 ended with a fall to No. 8 after a double-overtime defeat by unranked Central Florida. Texas Tech also slipped to No. 13 after losing to Cincinnati.

The poll’s top five remain Miami (FL), Ohio State, Georgia, Indiana and Notre Dame. Georgia stays the highest-ranked SEC team at No. 3, but recent losses by Ole Miss and Tennessee reshaped the conference’s standing, allowing Kentucky and Alabama to move into the top ten.

Wisconsin re-entered the Top 25 at No. 25 after a win over USC, marking its first appearance since September 2023. Coach Luke Fickell’s Badgers are 5-2 and could target eight or nine wins this season.
