Indiana defeats Michigan 13-6 in overtime as quarterback Josh Hoover returns from injury

Resumen

The No. 6 Indiana Hoosiers beat the Michigan Wolverines 13-6 in overtime, with quarterback Josh Hoover playing through injuries and scoring the winning touchdown.

Indiana quarterback Josh Hoover, who was dealing with injuries, led the Hoosiers to a 13-6 overtime victory over the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday in Ann Arbor. Coach Curt Cignetti kept Hoover in the game despite discussions about backup Grant Wilson, and Hoover responded with a 4-yard touchdown run in overtime.

"At the end of the day, it’s been Josh's season and even though he’s not 100%, we’ve got to finish it out with him and he responded," Cignetti said.

The win gave Indiana (7-1, 4-1 Big Ten) its first triumph at Michigan’s stadium since 1967. Hoover, who completed 8 of 18 passes for 81 yards, said he had to overcome his injuries to help the team.

"I had to battle through some things this week to get out here. I knew I was going to find a way to get out here and find a way to win this game for this team regardless of how I felt," Hoover said.

Michigan (4-3, 1-3) started freshman quarterback Tommy Carr, who struggled with turnovers and sacks, finishing 20 of 32 for 167 yards with an interception and a fumble. The Wolverines reached Indiana’s 3-yard line in the final minute of regulation but settled for a 26-yard field goal as time expired.

"Both turnovers, completely on me," Carr said after the game.

Coach Kyle Whittingham noted the close nature of Michigan’s games this season.

"It comes down to the last play, the last possession in every game except UTEP. We’re the only team in the country that has done that," Whittingham said.

Indiana will host Minnesota next Saturday, while Michigan travels to Rutgers.
