Indiana defeats Michigan 13-6 in overtime
Indiana rallied in overtime to beat Michigan 13-6 after a defensive battle that kept both offenses limited throughout regulation.
Indiana snapped a recent losing streak with a 13-6 overtime victory over Michigan at the Big House, improving to 7-1 on the season. The Hoosiers were held scoreless in the second half, while Michigan managed only two field goals, the second coming from kicker Trey Butkowski with a 26-yard attempt that sent the game to overtime. In the extra period, Indiana quarterback Josh Hoover connected on a 21-yard pass to Brock Schott and then ran for the decisive touchdown. Michigan's true-freshman quarterback Tommy Carr, starting in place of Bryce Underwood, was unable to convert a subsequent drive, sealing the win for Indiana.
Both teams struggled offensively, combining for 12 punts, two interceptions and three missed field goals. Michigan recorded 224 total yards and Indiana 212, with each side converting roughly 30% of third-down attempts. Carr completed 20 of 32 passes for 167 yards but threw an interception and lost a fumble, while Hoover finished 8 of 18 for 81 yards and also threw an interception.
"We found a way. Not pretty, but it's a win," Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti said after the game. "It was gritty as hell. It's a win, and we're gonna celebrate it."
