Cincinnati defeated Texas Tech 37-24 on Oct. 24 in Cincinnati, Ohio, handing the Red Raiders their first loss of the season. The win narrowed Texas Tech's chances of reaching the College Football Playoff, leaving the team needing a perfect finish, Sports Illustrated reported. A Cincinnati spokesperson said the victory was a key step toward securing a Big 12 championship.

Earlier coverage highlighted the Bearcats' second-half surge, including a 58-yard touchdown run by running back Cole Tabb, according to Yahoo Sports. CBS Sports noted that the loss ended Texas Tech's nine-game conference winning streak and raised questions about the Big 12's ability to send multiple teams to the playoff. ESPN had initially listed the final score as 34-27 before later reports confirmed the 37-24 result.
