German suspect detained after fire guts historic Eagle's Nest in Bavaria
German authorities said the fire that broke out on 23 October at the Kehlsteinhaus, the former Nazi mountain guest house known as the Eagle's Nest near Berchtesgaden, gutted the historic building, that a 33-year-old suspect had been detained, and that the site will be rebuilt, according to statements made on 26 October. Earlier reports on the same day indicated that police had arrested a suspect near the scene and that firefighters were battling the blaze, which completely consumed the structure. The suspect was later transferred to a psychiatric facility while officials assessed the damage and possible motives.
