Experts call for new frameworks for personalized mRNA cancer vaccines
STAT reported that, after the Phase 3 trial of the personalized mRNA vaccine intismeran demonstrated a 42% cut in melanoma recurrence or death risk compared with pembrolizumab, experts called for new regulatory pathways, integrated delivery models and payment structures to broaden patient access in the United States. Moderna and Merck announced the trial results, noting the vaccine combined with Keytruda reduced distant metastasis risk by 38% and met study expectations.
The announcement triggered a drop in both companies' shares. Later, Moderna chief executive Stéphane Bancel said the data would shape the company's future research agenda.
