Kimi Antonelli Faces Setbacks Before Potential F1 Title in Mexico
Kimi Antonelli faced health issues and increased tension during qualifying at the Mexico City Grand Prix, complicating his bid to secure the 2026 Formula 1 drivers' championship. The Mercedes driver, despite these setbacks, holds a commanding lead in the standings and can clinch the title with a modest finish in Mexico. Earlier in the season, Antonelli secured pole position and won the United States Grand Prix in Austin, extending his points advantage significantly over rivals George Russell and Lewis Hamilton.
His performance has been praised by Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, who called it Antonelli's best race yet. The 20-year-old Italian is poised to become Formula One's youngest world champion and the first Italian to win the title since 1953 if he succeeds in Mexico.
