Quest Diagnostics reports unauthorized access to patient-record system
Quest Diagnostics said its Quanum LSM platform was accessed without permission, adding to recent cyber incidents targeting health-care companies.
Quest Diagnostics announced on Thursday that it detected unauthorized access to its Quanum LSM system, a platform used by some clients to place test orders and retrieve results. The company said it is investigating the breach and working with security experts to assess the impact on patient records.
The incident comes amid a series of cyberattacks on health-care firms, including medical-device manufacturers Abbott, Stryker, Medtronic and Boston Scientific, as well as drugmaker Novo Nordisk and equipment supplier West Pharmaceutical Services.
"We are taking this matter very seriously and have engaged forensic investigators to determine the scope of the intrusion," a Quest spokesperson said.
Quest did not disclose the number of affected individuals or the specific data accessed, and it has not indicated whether any patient information was compromised. The company said it will notify affected parties in accordance with applicable regulations.
