Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg Debuts for Warriors Amid Heated Exchange with Luka Doncic

Résumé

Golden State rookie Yaxel Lendeborg scored 12 points in his NBA debut as the Warriors fell 127-105 to the Los Angeles Lakers, and exchanged words with Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncien during the game.

Golden State Warriors forward Yaxel Lendeborg made his NBA debut on Wednesday, posting 12 points, three rebounds and two assists as the Warriors were beaten 127-105 by the Los Angeles Lakers. The 24-year-old, a former Michigan senior who helped the Wolverines win the 2026 national championship and was selected 11th overall in the draft, also drew attention for a verbal sparring session with Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic.

Lakers star Doncic finished with 28 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. After the game, he said, "He was talking crazy, but I wasn't trying to talk back. This season, I'm not trying to get techs."

In a post-game interview, Lendeborg described the experience as eye-opening, noting the amount of flopping and foul-baiting he observed. He said he had previously admired Doncic but felt his respect waned after what he perceived as excessive complaining during the contest. Lendeborg added, "I was telling him he sucks. I said a couple cuss words, that's why I got the technical. He was laughing and talking because of that one foul call."

The Warriors, dealing with injuries to Jimmy Butler and speculation about Kristaps Porzingis, are seeking to integrate Lendeborg into a lineup built around veteran Steph Curry. The loss to the Lakers highlighted early challenges for the team as the season progresses.
