Lions work toward Sam LaPorta extension as player reaffirms desire to stay
On 24 October, Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes announced that the club was working toward a contract extension for tight end Sam LaPorta, who again expressed his desire to stay with the team. Earlier, on 22 October, LaPorta said he was disappointed that extension talks had stalled while he continued to play under his rookie deal.
Coach Dan Campbell responded that the team would not let LaPorta’s frustration become a distraction and emphasized his focus on the field. Later, LaPorta told reporters that negotiations were ongoing but no new progress had been made, adding that he wants to remain in Detroit for family stability despite being dissatisfied with the current offers.
