49ers coach hopeful Nick Bosa could return this week

Résumé

Defensive end Nick Bosa missed Wednesday's practice but coach Kyle Shanahan said the team expects him back soon, while other players remain under evaluation.

Defensive end Nick Bosa was absent from the San Francisco 49ers' Wednesday practice, but head coach Kyle Shanahan indicated the team hopes he will be back later in the week.

"(He) can’t go today but hoping he’ll be out there tomorrow," Shanahan said of Bosa.

Bosa has been sidelined since a calf injury during warm-ups on Sept. 24. He told NBC Sports Bay Area on Oct. 9 that he expects to be ready for the Week 7 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.

Wide receiver Mike Evans, who missed practice last week with Achilles soreness, will be evaluated throughout the week to determine his availability for Sunday’s game.

"We had to manage it last week," Shanahan said of Evans. "We’re managing it this week, so we’ll see how the rest of the year goes."

Evans aggravated his right Achilles while playing 25 snaps in the 49ers’ 23-17 win over the Washington Commanders, leaving the game after a 16-yard reception with just over a minute left in the second quarter.

Other injury updates included veteran wide receiver Christian Kirk returning to practice after a calf issue, Deebo Samuel remaining out with a hamstring injury, and several defensive players listed as unavailable due to various ailments.
