Dubois Defeats Wardley in Second-Round TKO to Retain WBO Heavyweight Title

Resumen

Daniel Dubois stopped Fabio Wardley in the second round at London’s O2 Arena, keeping his WBO heavyweight championship.

Daniel Dubois retained his WBO heavyweight title with a second-round technical knockout of challenger Fabio Wardley at the O2 Arena in London. The 29-year-old landed a straight right within the first 20 seconds, sending Wardley to the canvas, and continued a relentless assault that forced Wardley's corner to halt the bout before the end of the second round.

The bout marked Dubois' second consecutive stoppage win over Wardley, following a closely contested 11-round victory in Manchester five months earlier. The win improved Dubois' record to 24 wins, 23 by knockout, with three defeats.

"Fabio is a great boy, coming in for the second time, but it was my time and my era. I had my intentions, bad intentions from the beginning," Dubois said after the fight.

"My back was against the wall the first time, this time we just had to go out there and show that we mean business, which is what we did tonight," he added.

Wardley, 31, suffered his second loss in a 23-fight career.

"I have always thrown myself in with the best competitors out there, the best in the business, the biggest, hardest, meanest guys around so, there is no shame in a loss when you're testing yourself against the best," Wardley said.

A sell-out crowd of about 19,000 watched the fight, which featured several British celebrities in attendance. Trainer Ben Davison, who faced criticism for not stopping the first Dubois-Wardley fight earlier, held the towel as Wardley’s condition deteriorated in the second round.

The bout ended quickly, with Dubois delivering a series of combinations that left Wardley unable to defend effectively, prompting the corner to throw in the towel.
