Norte Fire scorches 465 acres, destroys homes and forces evacuations in Southern California
DW. com reported that on 17 October the Norte fire had burned about 465 acres on the Southern California coast, destroyed multiple homes, cut power to thousands and forced the evacuation of roughly 16,000 residents. Earlier, NBC 7 said a brush fire on Camp Pendleton spread to over 1,100 acres on 15 October, prompting a temporary shutdown of a section of Interstate 5 and evacuations on the base.
The next day the Henderson spot fire caused another I-5 closure while firefighters achieved about 20% containment and lifted some base evacuations, NBC 7 added. ABC News noted that Orange County officials ordered evacuations for thousands as the fast-moving fire burned 465 acres. BBC and NPR reported that strong Santa Ana winds drove the blaze, which destroyed six homes in San Juan Capistrano, injured a firefighter and left power outages for thousands.
