Netflix appoints Peter Rice as chief content officer amid layoffs
Netflix announced in Los Angeles that Peter Rice has been appointed chief content officer, with co-CEO Ted Sarandos saying his experience across TV, film and streaming will guide the company's next phase, Deadline reported. The appointment follows the departure of longtime chief content officer Bela Bajaria, who left after ten years, as confirmed by Deadline.
The Los Angeles Times earlier reported that Rice, a former Disney executive, would succeed Bajaria amid a broader restructuring. Variety noted that the change comes as Netflix implements a 6% workforce reduction and prepares for its upcoming earnings report, and that Rice will head a new programming team as part of the reshuffle.
