Tesla plans autonomous Roadster stunt mode and test track
Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on Oct 18 that the company will let Roadster owners trigger the aerial stunt mode demonstrated earlier and that a dedicated looping test track is being considered at the firm’s McGregor, Texas facility. The prototype, shown on Oct 15 at SpaceX’s McGregor test site, lifted off the ground using high-pressure air thrusters, performed a brief flip and landed upright.
The demonstration prompted regulatory questions, with aviation experts noting that the hardware still lacks the redundancy and safety data required for certification. Earlier reports had announced the livestreamed reveal, described the SpaceX-derived thruster system, and noted that production is targeted for 2028.
