Netflix cuts 1,000 jobs, including unscripted casting executives
Netflix's latest round of layoffs, affecting about 6% of its staff, also eliminated several senior figures in its unscripted casting and development divisions.
Netflix announced a reduction of roughly 1,000 positions, representing about 6% of its workforce, that also reached its unscripted television segment. The cuts impacted senior staff in unscripted casting and development, including Amy Cohen, Rich Leist and Annie Roberts.
Cohen, who had served as Director of Nonfiction Series since joining the company in 2017 after a decade at Fox, was among those let go. Leist, the Director of Unscripted Casting since 2021 and a key figure in launching Netflix's in-house casting department, was also dismissed. Roberts, another unscripted casting executive who came to Netflix in 2021 from NBCUniversal, was similarly affected.
The reductions extended beyond unscripted programming, touching executives in the awards team, product, technology, human resources, as well as scripted television and film divisions. Earlier reports identified additional departures from the scripted side, including Lisa Lang McMullen, James Oh, Andrew McQuinn and Carolina Garcia, along with several managers such as Dan Evans, Jason Pan and Aaron Davidson.
