Elon Musk donates over $200 million to Republican Senate super-PACs
The Federal Election Commission filings, reported by the BBC, show that Elon Musk donated more than $200 million to Republican-aligned Senate super-PACs, with the majority directed to the Senate Leadership Fund and to Texas-focused campaigns. Earlier reports indicated that Musk had already contributed $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund in the third quarter, making him the largest donor to either party in the current midterm cycle, according to Slate.
CBS said the super-PAC quickly transferred those funds to a Texas group backing Attorney General Ken Paxton’s Senate campaign. CNBC earlier noted that Musk’s total contributions to Republican committees had topped $276 million since July, and that Democratic candidates out-raised Republican opponents in most Senate and House races while GOP candidates relied heavily on outside super-PAC spending linked to Musk.
