Brewers take 2-0 NLCS lead as Guardians and Rays open ALCS
Milwaukee beat Los Angeles 7-4 to go up 2-0 in the National League Championship Series, while Cleveland and Tampa Bay start their American League Championship series.
Milwaukee continued its dominant postseason performance on Monday, defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-4 in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series and extending its series lead to 2-0. The win came on the back of three runs driven in by catcher William Contreras, who also hit a long home run to center field off Dodgers left-hander Kris Bubic. Milwaukee’s bullpen remained effective, allowing only one earned run in 28⅔ innings of postseason play.
In the American League, the Cleveland Guardians traveled to Tampa Bay to open their series against the Rays. Both teams are looking to establish momentum in the best-of-seven matchup.
"For the Dodgers, it ain't good. You can't count out the two-time champs, but the bottom line is the Dodgers had Tarik Skubal and Yamamoto lined up for the first two games and won neither. The Brewers are in a great position," wrote analyst Bradford Doolittle.
Key moments in the Brewers’ victory included a two-run insurance run by Turang, a sacrifice fly by Freeman that briefly put Los Angeles ahead, and a decisive RBI double by Contreras that knocked out Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The Dodgers briefly reclaimed the lead after a wild pickoff throw, but Milwaukee answered in the bottom of the first inning to regain control.
