Documentary on Elizabeth Holmes Includes Controversial Shower Scene
The film "You Can See Everything," which follows Elizabeth Holmes and her fiancé in the months before her prison sentence, features a full-frontal shower scene and explores her reflections on the Theranos case.
The documentary "You Can See Everything," debuting in theaters Friday, chronicles Elizabeth Holmes and her fiancé Billy Evans during a month at Holmes’s family beach house in California before her 2023 federal prison sentence. Directed by comedian Nathan Fielder and filmmaker Lance Oppenheim, the film captures the couple’s daily routine, including Evans working out at a gym and a full-frontal shower sequence that was retained in the final edit.
Holmes discusses her legal case, stating she received a "shaft" from prosecutors but maintains she never deceived investors about Theranos’s technology. When asked by Fielder whether she has ever told a lie, she initially says she does not think so, later conceding she may have told minor "white lies" to avoid social plans.
The directors also noted logistical challenges at the guest house where they stayed, such as the lack of mattresses, which led them to wonder if the location was being monitored. In a later scene, Holmes becomes emotional while watching a dramatized portrayal of herself in the Hulu series "The Dropout," asking Fielder to turn off the television.
Holmes was convicted in 2022 of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and three counts of wire fraud, receiving a sentence of more than 11 years. The nearly three-hour documentary, which premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on Sept. 6, offers an intimate look at her life and the ongoing public interest in the Theranos saga.
