Oklahoma defeats Texas 27-24 on last-second field goal

摘要

Oklahoma rallied in the fourth quarter with two interceptions of Texas quarterback Arch Manning, setting up a game-winning 47-yard field goal as time expired.

Oklahoma secured a 27-24 victory over No. 1 Texas after a 47-yard field goal by Tate Sandell as the clock hit zero. The Sooners capitalized on two fourth-quarter interceptions by Texas quarterback Arch Manning, the second coming with 19 seconds left and the game tied at 24-24. Defensive back Courtland Guillory’s pick set up wide receiver Isaiah Sategna III for two sideline catches that positioned Sandell for the decisive kick.

Texas had earlier missed a 53-yard field-goal attempt by Gianni Spetic with 1:54 remaining, and a prior drive ended when Manning’s deep pass was intercepted by Peyton Bowen, who returned it 42 yards for a 24-17 Oklahoma lead. Texas responded quickly, completing a 75-yard drive in seven plays that culminated in a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Bishop Jr., tying the game at 17-17.

Special teams also contributed to Oklahoma’s scoring. A blocked punt recovered by Dakoda Fields resulted in a touchdown that tied the game at 7-7 in the second quarter. The Sooners finished with 238 total yards, quarterback Mateer completing 18 of 26 passes for 155 yards, while the rushing attack managed 83 yards.

The loss drops Texas, which entered the game favored, to an uncertain position in the college football playoff race, while Oklahoma remains in contention despite ongoing offensive struggles.
