Marvin Harrison Jr. set to debut for Texans in London game
Houston acquired former No. 4 draft pick Marvin Harrison Jr. from Arizona and will start him against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on Sunday, coach DeMeco Ryans said.
Houston coach DeMeco Ryans announced Wednesday that newly acquired wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. will suit up for the Texans in their Sunday game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. Harrison arrived in Houston on Monday after the team traded a 2027 second- and seventh-round pick, plus a 2027 sixth-rounder, to the Arizona Cardinals.
The 2024 fourth-overall pick has recorded five catches on 13 targets for 85 yards and a touchdown this season. He described the move as a "great" opportunity, noting his prior connection with quarterback C.J. Stroud from their time together at Ohio State.
"I think the team as a whole it's a great situation for me. Being with a quarterback that you have rapport with and had success with in the past is always great too," Harrison said.
Harrison, who has totaled 1,578 receiving yards, 13 touchdowns and 108 receptions in 33 games, said he will take accountability for his limited production in Arizona while keeping specific details private.
"I think it's just a combination of everything. I don't think I can pinpoint one thing. There are a lot of factors, and you always want to take accountability for yourself," he said.
After passing his physical on Monday and practicing with the team on Wednesday, Ryans expressed confidence in Harrison's work ethic and rapid assimilation.
"It isn't hard when the player is attentive and he's locked in on getting the details down. Marvin's first night here, he was with our assistant wide receiver coach Tiquan Underwood and they were grinding. They were working late at night. They were in the playbook grinding, and that allowed him to get a day ahead," Ryans said.
Quarterback Stroud welcomed the reunion, noting that Harrison's familiarity with the offense should ease the transition.
"He's a really smart kid. I'm not worried about it. At the end of day, it's football. You run some very similar routes, just different ways, and I'm very vocal on how I like things done. He knows that. We've had conversations. We'll continue to just get on the same page," Stroud said.
Harrison joins a receiving corps that includes Nico Collins, Xavier Hutchinson and Jaylin Noel as the Texans prepare for their international matchup.
