New Avatar series "Seven Havens" introduces third Avatar amid post-Korra apocalypse

The Avatar franchise returns with "Avatar: Seven Havens," a sequel series that takes place after an apocalyptic event attributed to former Avatar Korra. The show follows Pavi, a young Avatar who must conceal her identity in a world that now fears the Avatar’s return. Set primarily in Ellora, one of seven desert settlements built to survive the disaster, the series explores her struggle to stay hidden while navigating a society that blames the Avatar for past devastation.

Creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko reunited with former collaborators to launch the series, opting for a narrative shift rather than continuing the generational progression of the previous series. The plot introduces a mystery surrounding the cataclysm and Pavi’s separated twin sister, Nisha, while also depicting a Bending Corps that registers elemental benders. A young airbender, Jae, learns of Pavi’s existence and is ordered by his commander, Karthik, to protect her.

Visually, the series draws on French artist Moebius’s style, featuring clean lines and flat colors, while the score by Jeremy Zuckerman incorporates synth-heavy, science-fiction tones. Critics who screened the first six episodes noted that the show balances new world-building with references for longtime fans, and that it attempts to move away from earlier cultural appropriation concerns by presenting a more diverse setting.

"The series builds its mystery efficiently, intertwining Pavi’s personal story with the larger threat of the cataclysm," said a reviewer.

The series arrives as Avatar Studios, now part of Skydance following its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, navigates a competitive animation market. Its continuation may depend on both audience reception and corporate decisions.
