Sean Payton to Resume Offensive Play-Calling for Denver Broncos

Resumen

The Broncos have removed offensive coordinator Davis Webb from play-calling duties, reinstating head coach Sean Payton ahead of the upcoming game against the Chargers.

The Denver Broncos announced that head coach Sean Payton will take over offensive play-calling, ending the brief tenure of offensive coordinator Davis Webb in that role. The change will take effect for the weekend matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The decision follows a series of underwhelming offensive performances, including a 31-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1, where the Broncos recorded fewer total yards than the Chiefs' rookie running back. Although the offense showed improvement in later weeks, a narrow halftime tie against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4 turned into a double-digit defeat, prompting the coaching staff to act.

Payton's return to play-calling is intended to give him a chance to reestablish his offensive rhythm before a Thursday night game against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 6, a contest that carries additional attention due to recent comments from Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald.

The Broncos, who finished the previous season with a 14-3 record, are already one loss away from matching that total after four games this season. The organization hopes the adjustment will help sustain competitiveness in the AFC race.

"I’m hearing that Sean Payton is going to be taking over play calling this week," former NFL receiver Brandon Stokley wrote on social media, confirming the upcoming change.
