Amazon launches new Alexa tablets running Android

Resumen

Amazon introduced three Alexa-branded tablets that run Android and include the Google Play Store, positioning them as lower-priced alternatives to the iPad.

Amazon announced a new line of Alexa tablets that replace its previous Fire OS with a standard Android experience and access to the Google Play Store. The lineup consists of an 8.7-inch model priced at $229, an 11-inch version at $329 and a 12-inch Pro model costing $499. The mid-size tablet features 8 GB of RAM, a 90 Hz display, a thin chassis and 64 GB of storage, with an optional 128 GB upgrade for an additional $70.

Compared with Apple’s entry-level iPad, the Alexa 11-inch tablet is $120 cheaper, offers more RAM and a higher-refresh display, though the iPad uses Apple’s A16 processor and starts with 128 GB of storage. Amazon’s devices are powered by MediaTek processors and run Android, which the company says provides a familiar app ecosystem alongside Alexa integration and a reader mode that reduces blue light.

Analysts note that the pricing and specifications could attract consumers seeking a budget tablet with Alexa features, though performance differences between the MediaTek and Apple silicon remain a factor. Amazon is also offering a 20 % trade-in discount on the new tablets at launch.
