Amazon launches Alexa-branded tablets running Google-certified Android
Amazon has rebranded its tablet line as Alexa Tablets, replacing the Fire name and offering Google Play Store access on three new Android devices set to ship in October.
Amazon introduced a new tablet family under the Alexa brand, moving away from the Fire name and providing Google-certified Android operating systems with access to the Play Store. The lineup includes an 8-inch model priced at $230, an 11-inch version at $330, and a 12-inch Pro model starting at $500. All three feature unibody aluminum designs and 16:10 screens, while the Pro model uses a taller 3:2 display, a MediaTek Dimensity 8400 processor, 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, a 2800×1840 resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate and 500 nits brightness. Optional accessories for the Pro include a matte-finish screen upgrade, a keyboard and a stylus.
The tablets run a full version of Android with Google Play, allowing users to install standard Android apps and AI services such as Gemini. Alexa integration remains central, enabling voice interaction with Amazon’s AI assistant and product recommendations. Amazon began accepting preorders, with shipments scheduled for October 14.
Pricing positions the devices between Apple’s iPad Mini, which starts at $600, and the base iPad model at $450, offering a competitive alternative in the 2026 tablet market.
