Apple expected to unveil refreshed MacBook Pro with OLED screen and touchscreen later this year

Resumen

Apple is planning a major update to its MacBook Pro line, featuring an OLED display, a touchscreen, a hole-punch camera cutout and the Dynamic Island, while retaining the current M5 Pro and M5 Max processors.

Apple is slated to launch a refreshed MacBook Pro lineup as early as October or November, according to multiple supply-chain sources. The new models are expected to replace the mini-LED panels used in the current generation with OLED screens, which would provide true blacks and higher contrast. Bloomberg reports that the laptops will also be the first Macs with a touchscreen, and that macOS is being adapted to support touch gestures such as pinching, zooming and dynamic button resizing.

The redesign includes a shift from the existing notch to a hole-punch camera cutout, and the addition of the Dynamic Island interface that currently appears on iPhone models. Apple is also said to be making the chassis thinner and lighter by re-engineering internal components, though it has not confirmed whether any ports will be removed.

Contrary to earlier speculation about next-generation chips, the upcoming MacBook Pros will use the same M5 Pro and M5 Max processors found in the current lineup. The company is reportedly postponing higher-end M6 variants in favor of focusing on the forthcoming M7 generation, which is expected to emphasize AI performance.

Analyst Mark Gurman has suggested that Apple might brand the new laptops as "MacBook Ultra" to highlight their premium positioning, but no official naming has been announced.

"We are optimizing macOS to take advantage of the MacBook Pro’s touchscreen," a Bloomberg source said.

"The new MacBook Pros are lighter — significantly lighter," reported Mark Gurman.

Apple is expected to reveal the devices at an event later in the year, with availability to follow shortly after.
