Indiana rallies late to defeat Nebraska 20-17 after fourth-quarter comeback

Resumen

The #7 Indiana Hoosiers overcame an 11-point deficit in the final minutes to beat Nebraska 20-17, capitalising on two long touchdowns following defensive lapses by the Cornhuskers.

Indiana secured a 20-17 victory over Nebraska at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, erasing an 11-point fourth-quarter lead in just under five minutes. After Anthony Colandrea’s 39-yard rushing touchdown gave Nebraska a 17-6 advantage with 12:01 remaining, safety Caleb Benning was beaten on the snap, allowing Hoosier receiver Nick Marsh to score on a 75-yard play. On the next possession, Indiana’s quarterback Josh Hoover connected with Marsh again for a 44-yard touchdown following a Nebraska run-stop on fourth-and-1.

Nebraska outgained Indiana in total yards (391-328) and time of possession (39:33-20:27) and held a 332-186 offensive advantage before the final 12 minutes, but the Hoosiers’ two explosive plays accounted for 119 of their 142 yards in the closing stretch. The Cornhuskers forced six punts and limited Indiana’s rushing to 65 yards, yet the late defensive breakdowns proved decisive.

Colandrea completed 25 of 43 passes for 263 yards and added 47 rushing yards, marking his fifth game of the season with at least 250 yards of total offense. Nebraska’s receivers posted notable performances, with Jacory Barney Jr. recording nine catches for 108 yards and Nyziah Hunter scoring his first career rushing touchdown.

Indiana, ranked ninth nationally in rushing before the game, limited the Huskers’ ground attack to 128-65 yards. The Hoosiers’ running duo, Lee Beebe and Turbo Richard, combined for 1,107 yards and nine touchdowns over the season, but were held to 41 yards on 17 carries by Nebraska’s defense.

Special teams saw Nebraska miss a 40-yard field goal before halftime, while punter Archie Wilson recorded a career-long 68-yard punt in the fourth quarter. Nebraska will travel to Eugene for its next game against Oregon, while Indiana prepares to host Ohio State.
