Warner Bros. Discovery Executives Earn Over $1 Billion from Skydance Sale
Executives at Warner Bros. Discovery have collectively earned more than $1 billion from the recent sale of shares related to the acquisition by Paramount.
The recent sale of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) shares has resulted in significant financial gains for the company's top executives, as disclosed in filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Former CEO David Zaslav alone sold shares worth over $224 million and realized approximately $381 million from in-the-money options, totaling more than $600 million without accounting for severance or other benefits.
Zaslav's four top deputies also capitalized on the sale, collectively earning over $500 million. This group includes former CFO Gunnar Weidenfels, former chief revenue and strategy officer Bruce Campbell, and former international chief Gerhard Zeiler, who is considering a political career in Austria. JB Perrette, the former CEO of global streaming and games at WBD, transitioned to Skydance as co-chair and chief business officer for TV and streaming, netting around $157 million from his shares and options.
The SEC filings indicate that Campbell earned approximately $129 million, Weidenfels $122 million, and Zeiler $92 million. These figures are subject to taxes and withholding, and the options depend on vesting. Additionally, many other WBD employees, about half of whom held shares, are expected to receive payouts, with reports suggesting that around 500 employees could earn at least $1 million each.
However, as Skydance prepares to reduce its workforce in the coming months, the long-term financial impact for these employees remains uncertain.
