Former pastor and former 'American Idol' contestant sentenced to life for wife's murder

Resumen

Caleb Flynn was sentenced to life without parole after being convicted of killing his wife in Ohio, while his defense announced plans to appeal.

Caleb Flynn, a former pastor who previously appeared on a national singing competition, was sentenced Monday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2023 murder of his wife, Ashley Flynn, in their Tipp City home. A Hamilton County judge found that Flynn had shot his wife and then staged the scene to resemble a burglary.

During sentencing, the judge said, "Your actions were abhorrent. You could've walked away, you could've separated from her and let her walk on this Earth. You shattered their sense of security, you shattered their innocence. You took something from them they will never get back, their mother."

Flynn addressed the court in a statement to his daughters, parents and Ashley’s family, maintaining his innocence. Victims’ relatives read statements, including Ashley’s sister Kayla Keyt, who said, "We trusted you, we believed in you, we honestly would've laid down our lives for you. One of my greatest fears was that people will look at you and what you have done and begin questioning whether any of this, Christianity, faith, Jesus was real."

Flynn’s defense attorney, Patrick Mulligan, argued that Flynn has no prior criminal record and may be eligible for rehabilitation, and indicated the team will pursue an appeal. The court’s decision reflects the severity of the homicide and the jury’s finding of guilt.
