Fantasy Football: Top Defensive Units for Week 6 of the 2026 NFL Season
Analyst Gary Davenport highlights the Minnesota Vikings, Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars and other defenses as prime fantasy starters for Week 6, noting recent performances and matchups.
Gary Davenport evaluated the fantasy value of NFL defenses ahead of Week 6 of the 2026 season. The Minnesota Vikings, now 5-0, lead the league in scoring defense at 12.8 points per game and rank third in total defense. Their aggressive scheme, with a blitz rate of 72 percent, has produced 17 sacks and double-digit takeaways, making the unit the top fantasy defense, though they sit out this week on a bye.
The Pittsburgh Steelers, despite a modest showing against the Indianapolis Colts last week, remain a top-five fantasy option. They are expected to rebound against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who have allowed the most fantasy points per game to opposing defenses.
The Jacksonville Jaguars, currently the AFC’s highest-scoring fantasy defense, will face the Houston Texans in London. The Texans rank in the bottom ten for fantasy points allowed, giving the Jaguars a favorable matchup.
The San Francisco 49ers, despite injuries, posted five sacks and a defensive touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks and are projected as a strong starter against the Washington Commanders.
The Kansas City Chiefs return from a bye with a defense ranked seventh in points allowed and will face a struggling Los Angeles Chargers offense that is near the bottom of the league in fantasy points surrendered.
Other notable units include the Seattle Seahawks, who recorded three sacks and three takeaways against the 49ers and travel to Denver; the Baltimore Ravens, whose defense posted three sacks and an interception against the Atlanta Falcons; the Los Angeles Rams, seeking a win against the Arizona Cardinals; the New England Patriots, fifth in yards allowed and fourth in points allowed; the New York Giants, eighth in fantasy points despite average statistical rankings; and the Indianapolis Colts, who host the Tennessee Titans after a recent loss to the Steelers.
"The Vikings' aggressive blitzing has become a fantasy must-start," Davenport said.
"The Jaguars' balanced defense makes them a reliable weekly starter," he added.
Fantasy managers are advised to consider these matchups and recent defensive performances when setting their lineups for Week 6.
