NFL investigates line judge who allegedly used profanity toward Cardinals tight end

摘要

The league is reviewing footage of line judge Jeff Seeman reportedly swearing at Arizona tight end Trey McBride during the Cardinals' loss to the New York Giants, after criticism from the players' union.

The National Football League said it is examining an incident in which line judge Jeff Seeman appeared to curse at Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride during the team's 36-24 defeat by the New York Giants on Sunday. The exchange was captured on broadcast video, showing Seeman responding to McBride’s question about a missed penalty with the words “fuck you," after which McBride laughed upon noticing the camera.

League spokesperson Brian McCarthy confirmed the review to the Associated Press. The NFL Players Association, represented by executive director JC Tretter, condemned the behavior, posting a clip of the incident and stating, > "This kind of behavior from an official towards a player is unacceptable. Players are consistently held accountable when the roles are reversed. We expect the NFL to hold officials to the same standard."

The incident occurred with under five minutes remaining, following a non-call on a New York third-down penalty that the Cardinals failed to convert. The Cardinals punted and the Giants secured the win. The NFL Referees Association did not immediately respond to requests for comment, and McBride did not address the episode in his post-game remarks.
