Google AI Plus to lose Gemini Pro access in October as free tier restrictions tighten
Google will remove Gemini Pro from its AI Plus subscription on October 9, while free users will lose the Flash model, leaving only Flash-Lite; higher-tier plans remain unchanged.
Google announced that its AI Plus subscription will no longer include access to the Gemini Pro model starting in October. The change will take effect on October 9, the same date free-tier users lose the standard Flash model and retain only Flash-Lite. Google said Plus subscribers will receive an email outlining the exact timing of the Pro model removal. All other paid tiers, including AI Pro and Ultra, will continue to have Gemini Pro access unchanged.
"Free users will lose access to Flash on October 9, while Plus subscribers will keep Flash and Flash-Lite but lose Pro," the company’s notice read.
The adjustments follow a recent promotional offer that gave Plus members a steep discount for three months, which included expanded storage and increased Gemini usage. Existing Plus users who relied on the Pro model are now considering alternative AI services.
