Alabama rises to No. 6 in AP Top 25 ahead of Georgia matchup

Resumen

Alabama moved up one spot to No. 6 in the latest AP poll after a 56-23 win over Mississippi State, while Missouri jumped 11 places and Pittsburgh entered the top 25.

Alabama advanced from No. 7 to No. 6 in the AP Top 25 following its 56-23 victory over Mississippi State, becoming the highest-scoring home team ever to concede that many points in a regulation SEC game. The Crimson Tide will host No. 2 Georgia at Bryant-Denny Stadium next Saturday, a contest that follows Alabama’s two-year regular-season winning streak against the Bulldogs despite a loss in the previous SEC Championship.

Indiana fell to No. 7 after the loss, while Georgia received its second first-place vote. Texas remained No. 1 with 61 of 70 first-place votes, and will face Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry.

Other notable moves include Florida dropping from No. 8 to No. 16 after a 45-17 defeat by Missouri, which rose 11 spots to No. 14. Iowa slipped six places to No. 20 after a loss to Ohio State. Pittsburgh made its first appearance in the top 25 after starting the season 5-0 and beating Virginia Tech, while Kentucky fell out following an overtime win over South Carolina.

"Alabama should be in the top five," said an analyst, noting the team’s undefeated record and dominant performance against Mississippi State.

The Big 12 also saw three of its teams—BYU (No. 8), Texas Tech (No. 11) and Utah (No. 12)—ranked in the top 15, each unbeaten and positioned for potential College Football Playoff consideration.
