Phillies and Braves Set for Decisive Game 3 in NL Wild-Card Series
Aaron Nola will start for Philadelphia against Atlanta's Ray Kerr in Game 3, with the winner advancing to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Division Series.
Philadelphia and Atlanta will meet Thursday night in Game 3 of their National League wild-card series, with the victor moving on to the NL Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The game is scheduled to begin at 8:15 p.m. Eastern and will be televised on NBC.
The Phillies have veteran right-hander Aaron Nola on the mound, while interim manager Don Mattingly indicated that Zack Wheeler is also available for relief. Nola is pitching on full rest after a brief outing four days earlier.
Atlanta will start left-handed reliever Ray Kerr, who returned from Tommy John surgery in August, as an opener. The Braves are expected to follow Kerr with bulk reliever Grant Holmes.
The series is tied 1-1 after Philadelphia rallied for a 4-3 win in extra innings in Game 2, highlighted by a tenth-inning home run from Alec Bohm. The loser of Thursday’s game will see its season end.
"We’re taking an all-hands-on-deck approach to our pitching plan," Mattingly said.
The winner will join the Dodgers, the No. 2 seed, in the NL Division Series scheduled to begin on Oct. 3.
