Eli Lilly’s Retatrutide Achieves Up to 30% Weight Loss in Phase-3 Trial
Eli Lilly reported that its experimental drug retatrutide produced an average 25% weight loss after 80 weeks in a large phase-3 trial, and also lowered the incidence of knee pain and sleep-apnea events, according to a presentation in Milan, Italy. Earlier reports described the drug’s effects in the same trial. Ars Technica said participants lost an average 25% of body weight after 80 weeks, with some achieving up to 30% loss and improvements in several obesity-related health measures.
The Guardian noted that the double-blind study showed up to 19% weight loss and better blood-sugar control in people with obesity and type 2 diabetes. NBC News added that some participants lost up to 23% of body weight, equivalent to about 60 pounds, and that the company plans to file for FDA approval next year.
