Chiefs defeat Raiders 30-27, receive mixed performance grades
Kansas City held off a late Raiders comeback to win 30-27, but lost two wide receivers to injury and earned varied grades across offense, defense and special teams.
Kansas City secured a 30-27 victory over Las Vegas on Sunday, improving to 4-0 while seeing wide receivers Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton exit with injuries. Rice left in the first quarter with a hamstring problem, and Thornton suffered an ankle injury after a 45-yard catch late in the game.
Running back Kenneth Walker delivered a season-best 177 rushing yards, including a 77-yard touchdown that shifted momentum, and added two rushing scores. Xavier Worthy posted 70 receiving yards and recovered an onside kick in the final minutes.
The team’s passing offense received a B grade, with Patrick Mahomes completing deep passes to Worthy and Thornton, though the line struggled in short-yardage situations. The rushing attack earned an A, highlighted by Walker’s performance and effective blocking from Trey Smith and Jaylon Moore.
Defensive assessments were mixed. The secondary was graded D after a lack of sacks and penalties that extended Raiders drives, while the front seven earned an A for generating six tackles for loss. Special teams also received an A, featuring a key forced fumble recovery by Jeff Bassa and a successful fake punt by Matt Araiza.
Kansas City will have a bye in Week 5 before hosting the Los Angeles Chargers on Oct. 18.
