The season 52 premiere of Saturday Night Live featured a cold-open in which James Austin Johnson portrayed Donald Trump meeting New York mayor Zohran Mamdani, while Ashley Padilla played White House aide Natalie Harp.

Saturday Night Live began its 52nd season with a cold-open that satirized President Donald Trump and his White House aide Natalie Harp. James Austin Johnson appeared as Trump in a fictional meeting with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, portrayed by guest Ramy Youssef, at Gracie Mansion. The sketch introduced Ashley Padilla as Harp, arriving wet from a storm and offering her services to the president.

"Natalie, I didn’t realize you were in New York," Trump said, to which Harp replied, "Oh, I wasn’t. I ran here from D.C., weapons-style. I came in case you needed anything."

The sketch referenced Harp’s media profile this summer, noting her reputation for close loyalty to Trump and previously published letters expressing personal devotion. Trump compared Harp to a character from the horror film Obsession, prompting her to mimic the role before assuring she was "totally normal."

Harp then warned the mayor, "If you hurt him, I will end you," before the scene shifted to a comedic exchange about a $21 billion housing project and a social-media follow request. The episode was hosted by Jalen Brunson with musical guest Kat Sevy.

The Independent sought comment from the White House but did not receive a response.
