Senior football officials urge swift ruling on Manchester City financial breach case
Club representatives say the Premier League should deliver a decision on Manchester City's financial regulation violations before the season ends, citing the need for certainty.
The Premier League announced that Manchester City has been found guilty of all charges relating to breaches of its financial regulations covering the 2009-10 to 2017-18 seasons, including the alleged inflation of revenue by more than £900 million through sponsorship arrangements. City has denied the allegations and plans to appeal the ruling by the end of the week.
Senior figures within English football told BBC Sport that there is no reason the case cannot be concluded before the current season finishes. Speaking on condition of anonymity, a club official said, > "It benefits everyone for this to be resolved as quickly as possible." The same source added, > "Instinctively yes, but it has to be done right. We can all see what the risks are if it's not. But those risks have been there throughout the process, as they've won the league multiple times during it."
The officials emphasized that a timely decision would provide clarity for clubs and the league, while acknowledging the need for a thorough and proper adjudication.
