Guardiola backs Manchester City after Premier League finds club guilty of financial breaches
Pep Guardiola said he stands with Manchester City following the Premier League's ruling that the club breached financial rules, while the club announced plans to appeal the decision.
Pep Guardiola posted on X that he remains supportive of Manchester City and its supporters, saying he is "here for Manchester City and their fans more than ever" and that "we will get through this together." The Premier League announced that the club was found guilty of more than 100 breaches of its financial regulations, alleging that it used contracts and accounts that misrepresented its finances between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons, resulting in a balance-sheet discrepancy of about £900 million. The league's chief executive, Richard Masters, said the club had "systematically broken Premier League rules for nearly a decade." Manchester City issued a statement expressing disappointment and surprise at the league's opinion and said it would pursue all available appeal routes, claiming the decision contains material errors of law, principle and fact. The verdict covers a period in which the club secured three league titles, while Guardiola, who managed the team from 2016 to 2024, added six Premier League crowns and a Champions League win in 2023 before stepping down in May and being succeeded by Enzo Maresca.
