Harvey Weinstein sentenced to 15 years for 2006 assault in Manhattan

Resumen

Former film producer Harvey Weinstein received a 15-year prison term for the 2006 sexual assault of former production assistant Mimi Haley, after a retrial conviction.

A New York judge sentenced former film producer Harvey Weinstein to 15 years in prison for the 2006 sexual assault of former production assistant Mimi Haley at a Manhattan hotel. Weinstein, who maintained his innocence, told Judge Curtis Farber, "I am not a perfect person. I live with many regrets, and sincerely apologize for my actions." The judge noted that Weinstein had never accepted responsibility and said his legacy had been destroyed by the assault.

Haley testified that Weinstein forced oral sex on her after she refused his advances. The Manhattan District Attorney's Office had sought a 20-year term. District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg thanked Haley and other survivors for their support, describing their testimony as courageous.

Weinstein's lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, emphasized that his client had been convicted of assaults in only two cases, one in New York and one in California. Weinstein’s representative, Juda S. Engelmayer, said the defendant would continue to pursue appellate relief, maintaining his innocence while respecting the court process.
