Jameis Winston steps in as Giants starter after Jaxson Dart's injury
Quarterback Jameis Winston will start for the New York Giants in Week 3 following starter Jaxson Dart's season-ending knee injury, with the team aiming to rebound from a recent loss.
The New York Giants will start veteran quarterback Jameis Winston on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans after starter Jaxson Dart suffered a knee injury that requires surgery. Winston, who was called upon during Monday night’s game in Los Angeles, said the opportunity fulfills a long-held goal of being a starting quarterback.
"This is what I've always dreamed of, to be a starting quarterback," Winston told reporters ahead of the matchup.
Winston’s performance in the emergency appearance was modest, completing 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards with one interception in a 28-6 defeat. He previously started two games for the Giants last season, both ending in close losses. Earlier this year, the team rewarded him with a two-year, $13 million extension to retain a reliable backup.
The Giants, now 1-1, hope Winston can provide stability while Dart recovers. Winston emphasized his focus on fundamentals and supporting his teammate’s morale.
"The fans want to see wins. It's not about what I'm showing them. It's about us going out there and winning football games together," he added.
The game is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
