Caleb Williams Expected to Play Week 3 After Hamstring Issue

Résumé

Quarterback Caleb Williams was carted off with a hamstring injury in the Bears' loss to Minnesota but is not ruled out for the upcoming game against Philadelphia.

Quarterback Caleb Williams left Sunday’s 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings after appearing to suffer a leg injury, but team officials said the injury was limited to a hamstring strain and does not automatically sideline him for the Bears’ Week 3 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 28.

The assessment was reported by Tom Pelissero of The Ringer, who noted that Williams avoided a "major injury" and remains eligible for the next game.

"Williams may have avoided a worst-case scenario," Bears head coach Ben Johnson said after the game.

Williams, entering his third season, posted a 58.1 percent completion rate for 3,942 yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions last year, while also rushing for 388 yards and three scores. The Bears plan to rely on backup quarterbacks Tyson Bagent or Case Keenum if Williams is unavailable for an extended period.

The team highlighted improving Williams’ accuracy as a focus during the offseason, noting a reduction in sacks taken from his rookie campaign.
