Bears quarterback Caleb Williams cleared to play in Week 3 after hamstring scare

Summary

Caleb Williams did not sustain a major hamstring injury and is expected to be available for the Bears' Week 3 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is unlikely to miss the team's Week 3 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a report citing NFL insider Tom Pelissero. The player suffered a hamstring strain while attempting a run in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings, but medical staff determined the injury was not severe. Head coach Ben Johnson said Williams was in "good spirits" after the game and expressed relief that no knee damage occurred.

Williams left the field on a cart and was taken to the locker room for evaluation. Initial assessments suggested a Grade 1 hamstring strain. In the Vikings game, he completed 15 of 26 passes for 138 yards with one interception and added 42 rushing yards on five carries. Over his first two starts this season, Williams has completed 65.5% of his throws for 407 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, while rushing for 107 yards and two scores.

The Bears have not ruled him out for the upcoming Monday night contest, indicating he should be ready to play.
