Trump Praises NYC Mayor Mamdani, GOP Strategists Voice Midterm Concerns
Fox News reported that President Donald Trump praised New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani after their meeting at Gracie Mansion, prompting criticism from Republican strategists who said the compliment could undermine the party’s anti-socialist messaging ahead of the midterm elections. The meeting, scheduled for September 14, 2026, was a closed-door discussion at Gracie Mansion that covered city issues, immigration and a Queens housing project. Observers described the talks as wide-ranging, with Trump saying Mamdani would be a great mayor and later inviting him to the White House.
