Ohio murder trial hears graphic autopsy details as defendant Caleb Flynn breaks down

Resumen

During the second day of Caleb Flynn's murder trial in Ohio, jurors were shown graphic autopsy information while the defendant repeatedly sobbed, and prosecutors presented evidence contradicting his claim of an intruder.

Jurors in an Ohio murder trial heard graphic details from an autopsy report on Monday as defendant Caleb Flynn, a former contestant on a singing competition, repeatedly broke down in tears. Prosecutors allege Flynn shot his wife, Ashley Flynn, in their bedroom on Feb. 16 while their two young daughters were in another room, and have presented photographs describing facial injuries, a large frontal skull fracture from two exiting bullets, and other wound patterns.

"Besides her identity, that photo also depicts a large open fracture of the frontal skull that’s the result of two bullets exiting the head," the coroner said.

The courtroom did not display the images, but the description caused visible distress among members of the gallery, including Flynn.

Law enforcement testimony challenged Flynn’s claim that an intruder entered through the garage door. Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations crime-scene technician Holly Ryczek testified that the garage door showed no external damage indicative of forced entry, noting only interior marks. Specialist David Hammond added that his investigation led him to suspect the homicide was staged as a burglary.

"My concern at the end of the scene investigation was that this was a homicide staged as a burglary," Hammond told the court.

Defense attorney L. Patrick Mulligan questioned the investigators about the possibility of a lock being picked, but both experts said no test could confirm such an event.

Prosecutors plan to call additional witnesses when the trial resumes Tuesday morning.
