Lena Dunham and husband Luis Felber become parents to baby girl through surrogacy

Resumen

The actress and her husband announced the birth of their daughter, conceived via surrogate, after an embryo transfer in November.

Lena Dunham and her husband Luis Felber have welcomed a baby girl born through a surrogate, the couple announced in a Vogue op-ed. The couple, married since September 2021, are currently in the United States and plan to return to their home in North London.

Dunham said the embryo transfer occurred in November and described the surrogate’s pregnancy confirmation via a texted photo of a pregnancy test. She noted the birth took place 13 days after the due date, coinciding with a solar eclipse and meteor shower on Aug. 12.

The actress, who underwent a hysterectomy in 2017 because of severe endometriosis, has previously spoken about the impact of the surgery on her fertility plans. She told The Times that the procedure was both a grief and a relief and that she is now expanding her family through alternative methods. In earlier interviews she expressed how meeting others who built families in varied ways helped her feel optimistic about motherhood.

"I thought I would have the opportunity to experience my fertility and my cycle waning and it never was," Dunham said on a recent broadcast, adding that she now feels grateful for the path she has taken.

The couple’s daughter arrived after a delayed birth, and Dunham described the moment of seeing her newborn in the hospital. The family looks forward to raising the child together in London.
