Apple launches upgraded Mac Studio and M6 Mac mini with higher prices and soldered storage
Apple announced in Cupertino on September twenty-four that its newest Mac mini models equipped with M6 and M5 Pro chips use soldered NAND storage, and the 256 GB configuration, built from a single chip, delivers slower read/write speeds than larger SSDs, according to MacRumors. The updates follow Apple’s launch on September fifteen of a Mac Studio powered by the M5 Ultra chip, which doubles CPU, GPU and memory bandwidth versus the prior generation and starts at $12,299, and a new Mac mini with the M6 processor priced from $899.
Early Geekbench 7 tests showed the M5 Ultra delivering roughly 30 % higher single-core and 35 % higher multi-core scores than the M3 Ultra, while the M6 offered about 12 % single-core and 27 % multi-core improvements over the M5. Metal benchmark data indicated up to 59 % higher GPU performance for the M5 Ultra and 34 % for the M6.
